Scoil Acla CCÉ has today, March 14th, expressed sadness on the passing yesterday of Scoil Acla stalwart and revivalist, Tommy “Boley” McNamara.
Tommy was one of four visionaries universally credited with having the initial drive and zeal to propel the project forward in 1985 along with John ‘Twin’ McNamara, Mary McNamara and Fr. John Cosgrave. Each for a myriad of personal reasons set wheels in motion, the results of which resonate locally today. Each not taken to self-promotion, but whose contributions and driven personalities have unquestionably enabed and ensured the development of the organisation to what it is today.
Cathaoirleach of Scoil Acla, Sarah Calvey said “we will be eternally grateful to Tommy for his work over many years for Scoil Acla and in the protection and promotion of our music, culture and language here in Achill.”
“On behalf of Coiste Scoil Acla I would like to offer my deepest condolences to his family – his son Michael, daughters Annette, Mary and Noreen, grandchildren and many friends at this sad time. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy that will live on for future generations.”
