Tá áthas ar coiste Scoil Acla a fhógairt go bhfuil Kieran Hanrahan an ceoltóir conaíthíoch i mbliana i rith na scoile. Ceoltóir den scoth atá Kieran is as Inis Co an Cláir é agus tá clú agus cáil air mar ceoltóir agus craoltóir ‘Céilí House’ ar RTÉ . Tá ard mheás aige sa saol traidisiúnta ghaelach.
The Scoil Acla committee are delighted to announce that Kieran Hanrahan will be this years Musician in Residence for the duration of the summer school.
Kieran is a very well known Banjo player and broadcaster with RTÉ and he hails from Ennis, Co.Clare . He began playing traditional Irish music on the tenor banjo at the age of fourteen, and had won the All Ireland banjo competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann by the time he was nineteen. Over the years, Kieran has helped to found a number of traditional bands, including Inchiquin, Stockton’s Wing, and the Templehouse Ceili Band.
Kieran is also an assistant lecturer at the Conservatory of Music and Drama at Dublin Institute of Technology where he works in the Traditional Music programme. He achieved a 1st Class Honours Masters degree (MMus Hons) and was also awarded the DIT Gold medal for Academic Achievement in 2012. He has hosted numerous radio programs for RTÉ since 1991. Currently he hosts Céilí House, a traditional music programme aired every Saturday night on RTÉ Radio 1. For the last five years Kieran Hanrahan has been the Artistic Director of the Temple Bar TradFest in Dublin, Ireland.
Scoil Acla Chairman, Diarmuid Gielty, said ‘We are delighted to welcome Kieran as Musician in residence for 2014. He has often mentioned that Scoil Acla has uniqueness over other summer schools due to the calibre of musicians it attracts, the focus it has on arts, culture and ‘An Ghaeilge’ etc as well as the areas scenic beauty and ruggedness which reminds him of his upbringing on the west coast.
