There is a minimum age requirement of 7 years for all participants. Courses will have a mixed class of children and adults, depending on ability levels. It is generally understood that students would need to have a genuine interest in the activity. Some courses may have different age limit and this will be advised when booking.
In order to speed up the grading process on Monday morning of the summer school we are asking that you book the most appropriate class for each participant. Participants will be moved if the content is too easy or too challenging for them but to allow classes to begin as soon as possible on the first morning please select based on what level you/your child is playing at now based on the simple criteria in the document below.
Depending on the time schedule for the classes, you are welcome to participate in more than one. For example, many students choose to take music classes in the morning and then singing, dancing or Irish Language classes in the afternoon. The writer’s workshop is an all-day class.
Yes, students must provide their own instruments however Scoil Acla may have a small number of instruments available to rent during the Summer School week. All instruments must be booked in advance through the Scoil Acla office.
Classes take place in various venues throughout the island. A venue map can be found in the official programme. All venues will have their own supervisor.
Due to the high level of demand, booking for the summer school well in advance, is strongly advised. A limited number of course places may be available at registration on the Sunday of the summer school, however cannot be guaranteed.
Check-in takes place on Sunday of the summer school where participants collect their wristbands and can meet with staff who are on hand to answer any questions you may have. More details re: venue and check-in times will be emailed to participants in advance.
There are several hotels, guesthouses, B & Bs, and self-catering accommodations. In addition, there are caravan parks with camping facilities and hostels on the island. For further information, please contact Achill Tourism
Yes, there is a late registration fee of €20 per course which is added to courses 1 month prior to the commencement of the summer school. However, we envisage that all courses will be booked out in advance of July. Early booking is strongly advised.
Yes, Scoil Acla Summer School is an approved Summer Course for Primary School Teachers for 2025. Teachers are asked to register their details when booking. Further details regarding the requirements of the course will be communicated to teachers in advance of the summer school.
