Is there an age requirement in order to participate?

There is a minimum age requirement of 7 years for all participants. Courses will have a mixed class of children and adults, depending on ability levels. It is generally understood that students would need to have a genuine interest in the activity. Some courses may have different age limit and this will be advised when booking.

How do I know what level I should book for?

In order to speed up the grading process on Monday morning of the summer school we are asking that you book the most appropriate class for each participant. Participants will be moved if the content is too easy or too challenging for them but to allow classes to begin as soon as possible on the first morning please select based on what level you/your child is playing at now based on the simple criteria in the document below.

Can I participate in more than one class/activity?

Depending on the time schedule for the classes, you are welcome to participate in more than one. For example, many students choose to take music classes in the morning and then singing, dancing or Irish Language classes in the afternoon. The writer’s workshop is an all-day class.

Do I need to have my own instrument?

Scoil Acla has a small number of instruments which are available to rent during the Summer School week. All instruments must be booked in advance through the Scoil Acla office.

Where do the classes take place?

Classes take place in various venues throughout the island. A venue map can be found in the official programme. All venues will have their own supervisor.

Do I have to pre-book for the summer school?

Due to the high level of demand, booking for the summer school well in advance, is strongly advised. A limited number of course places may be available at registration however this is not guaranteed.

Do I need to check-in when I arrive?

More details will be emailed to participants in advance.

How do I secure accommodation for the week?

There are several hotels, guesthouses, B & Bs, and self-catering accommodations. In addition, there are caravan parks with camping facilities and hostels on the island. For further information, please contact Achill Tourism

Is there a late registration fee?

Yes, there is a late registration fee of €15 per course which is usually added to courses 3 days prior to the commencement of the summer school. However, we envisage that all courses will be booked out in advance of July. Early booking is strongly advised.

I am a Primary School teacher, is Scoil Acla EPV approved?

Unfortunately, due to an administrative error, Scoil Acla Summer School is not an approved Summer Course for Primary School Teachers for 2023.
